Golf at BallyBunion

Founded in 1906 Ballybunion Golf Club is an institution of the golfing world. The character of both courses is unique, both true links set amongst the finest sand dunes the world has to offer. They hug the ruggedly breathtaking Atlantic Ocean coastline, which provides a magnificent backdrop.

For decades, overseas visitors and professionals alike have been marvelling at the beauty and quality of Ballybunion.

"It demands greater imagination and shot-making skills than anything I have ever known. It makes me feel the same way as when I first saw St Andrews (where he won the British Open in 1984). The magic is the same." Seve Ballesteros.

The 11th hole captures the dramatic beauty of Ballybunion like no other. Described by Tom Watson as the best par four in the world, it is played from a dramatic, elevated tee, down towards a green with a frighteningly narrow entrance.  And to the right, there are spectacular views of the wild Atlantic.

Ballybunion also has the Cashen Course, designed by the celebrated American architect, Robert Trent Jones Snr. But the Old Course is the one to play.

"Having played the Old Course in Ballybunion many times since my first visit in 1981, I am now of the opinion it is one of the best and most beautiful tests of links golf anywhere in the world" - Tom Watson - Millennium Captain Ballybunion Golf Club.

Ring Of Kerry/Kenmare

Golf in Kenmare

The Ring of Kerry Golf & Country Club is located amidst the most stunning scenery imaginable in the village of Templenoe, 4 miles from the town of Kenmare on the N70 "Ring of Kerry".. Overlooking beautiful and serene Kenmare Bay with the Kerry mountains providing a wonderful backdrop, the setting is surely one of the best in Ireland.

The course itself, 6814 yds from the medal tees, is hilly with dramatic elevation changes and a challenging layout. Lakes abound ready to catch your errant ball, should you be distracted from your shot by the surrounding views. Strictly speaking a Parkland course, it has a definite links feel given its sand-based fairways and greens and its proximity to the bay.

Two of ‘The Ring’s’ signature holes lie on the back 9. Hole 13, ‘An Neidin’, is a 200 + yd Par 3 from an elevated tee which provides fabulous views of Kenmare Bay. The green slopes heavily from left to right and is protected by water. Par is a good score for this hole. Hole 14 ‘Tahilla’ is ‘The Ring’s’ number 1 index hole. A long par 4, it requires length and accuracy off the tee. The fairway narrows all the way to the green and is surrounded by trees with a huge bunker in front. On the front 9, hole 5 ‘Moll’s Gap’ is a short par 5, usually into the prevailing head wind. It’s a classic risk/reward 2 shot to an elevated green which is guarded by a steep incline and water.

In short, the Ring of Kerry Golf & Country Club is a beautifully-designed course set amidst unbelievable scenery, where every hole is memorable.

Golf in Waterville

Waterville Golf Club is a mystical experience – the beauty of classic links land, surrounded by the sea, yet forever challenged and shaped by the elements. Over 100 years old, Waterville is rated among the top 5 courses in Ireland and the top 20 links courses in the world.

Links golf combines sand dunes gorse and native grasses, firm fairways, sod faced bunkers and subtle putting surfaces all intertwined by the ever changing weather. Like all golf links courses, Waterville Golf Course is not immune to being changed by the constant wind and rain that is a fact of life for the links golf courses. But even amidst the constant change, Waterville remains a beautiful and mystical course providing some of the best links golf experience in Ireland.

This amazing 18-hole golf course is over a hundred years old. The club authorities have taken an aggressive approach to protecting the course from the elements by using rock armour implemented through boulders. This ensures that the exposed oceanfront of the course will be better able to handle the vagaries of nature so golfers can continue to enjoy their favourite links course.
